The family story began on the Maubet farm in 1907, in Noulens, in the heart of the Armagnac vineyards. It was here that the first eaux-de-vie were distilled. In the 1980s, Aline and Jean-Claude Fontan expanded their vineyard and began producing Côtes de Gascogne wines alongside Armagnac. They opted for quality and bottling, and began to raise the profile of all their products. In the early 2000s, Nadège and Sylvain, their children, brilliantly took up the challenge. They are now at the head of the estate. This family spirit is reflected in the Maison Fontan range of Armagnacs. It combines tradition with a great deal of modernity. Tradition can be found in their blends and in some fine vintages (1995, 1999, 2000), but also in their bruts de fût (1996, 2006). Modernity is the mixology path that Fontan has been following for many years now. Its Blanche and amber armagnac (blends less than ten years old) are highly appreciated by bartenders.
“Grape of the Art” (GotA) is a project that showcases exceptional Armagnacs and Cognacs, bottled in single casks and without reduction, to satisfy rum and whisky lovers. The concept was born of a group of enthusiasts in Stuttgart who, after discovering the quality and diversity of Armagnacs, decided to devote themselves to this French eau-de-vie. Their aim is to reveal the hidden treasures of small producers by selecting rare, unaltered casks.
