The Foursquare distillery traces its roots back to the 17th century, when Barbados began producing rum, then known as "kill-devil". However, it was in 1820 that the Seale family entered the scene, with the founding of R.L. Seale & Co. by Reginald Leon Seale. This family business quickly established itself as a major player in the island's rum trade. In 1996, the Seale family bought back the Foursquare distillery, which had been closed for several years. The philosophy of Richard Seale, current master distiller and owner, is based on transparency and authenticity. Unlike many other distilleries, Foursquare uses no additives or added sugars in its rums. Each cuvée is a pure reflection of the basic ingredients - molasses, yeast, water and oak - and the natural aging process.

The Roots, founded by Joren and Pieter, is an independent bottler relatively new to the spirits scene, dedicated to discovering and showcasing the most distinctive and authentic spirits. These enthusiasts strive to reveal hidden treasures of distilleries, by offering unique bottlings with a magical and enchanting appearance. With limited production, The Roots makes no compromises: Quality always takes over quantity!

Aged for 8 years in a tropical climate, then 6 years in a continental climate, Foursquare 2008 by The Roots is a perfectly integrated alcoholic Rum with round and spicy flavours. A goldsmith's work of a "first class" quality, The Roots delivers another nugget. Only 271 bottles produced.
