An anecdote tells that in the 19th century, the founder of Old Rodshu, then a young distiller, one day discovered an old manuscript in the attic of his family home. This document detailed forgotten distilling recipes, passed down by monks at the local abbey, who secretly produced whiskey for pilgrims. Inspired by this discovery, he decided to create Old Rodshu as a tribute to these lost traditions.
